I'm Wade Ridenhour, a professional pianist, keyboardist, and music educator based in the Washington, DC area. Over the past 20 years, I've taught students of all ages and skill levels, both in person and online, and have worked with students throughout the United States and internationally.

Throughout those years, I began noticing the same pattern again and again. Many students were hardworking, motivated, and genuinely enjoyed music, yet they continued to struggle with practice because reading notes and rhythms had never become truly comfortable. They often learned pieces successfully with the help of a teacher, but reading independently remained difficult. As music became more challenging, those small gaps often grew into larger frustrations.

Music Literacy Sessions grew out of a desire to address that specific problem. Rather than replacing a student's regular lessons, these sessions provide focused support to strengthen the reading and rhythm skills that make independent practice possible. My goal is to help students develop the confidence to approach new music with less hesitation and greater understanding.

My teaching has been shaped not only by two decades of private instruction, but also by an active professional performing career. As a pianist and keyboardist, I've performed in a wide variety of musical settings, from classical and jazz to rock, pop, musical theatre, weddings, and corporate events. Working across so many styles has reinforced the importance of strong reading skills and solid musical fundamentals.

Whether a student is just beginning to read music or is looking to overcome long-standing reading challenges, I believe every musician can become a more confident and independent reader with the right guidance and a clear, structured approach.
